Gated Self Storage Features

When choosing a unit to keep your stuff, security is going to be a main concern. What’s the point of loading everything into a storage unit only to have someone else come by and carry it off? Though the units themselves have lock and key, something extra is needed. Something like a gated self storage facility.

What Exactly Is Gated Self Storage?

As the name implies, gated self storage involves the use of gates at the entrances and exits of the facility. Sometimes you may see places where anybody can come into the facility grounds for a quick look around. That can be a problem when you consider that locks can be picked and broken. Limiting access to unit renters only helps to lower some of the risks.

Some Secure Features

Sometimes the limited access is handled through the use of assigned gate keys, other times key-cards. For us we prefer to use computerized gate access, where you have to punch in your code to get in. This lets us have a better idea who is coming in and out. Physical keys or cards can be lost or stolen, which presents a security risk, and can be hard to trace down should something unfortunate happen. By using computerized access, we can log which code was used, when it was entered, and who it’s assigned to.

Now a gate would imply a fence as well doesn’t it? There’s no point having a gate if someone can just go around it. Now, as it happens, our facility is fully fenced and comes with video surveillance. With close monitoring of who comes and goes we can lower the risks of anything happening, and in case it did, we are better able to respond to them.

Since the facility offers outdoor storage in addition to the storage units, it is clear why the extra layer of security is needed. It’s all well and good to have something locked away in a unit, but when you have a car, trailer, etc, sitting outdoors, a unit isn’t too helpful to you. Consider as well what would happen if you had a boat stored outside with all it’s electronics still aboard. As a side note, we highly recommend that you don’t leave anything in your boat that can be easily carried away while in storage, fence or no fence.

The obvious thing here is this is all about providing a high security environment for those looking to use the storage units. Many clients are trusting that their valuables will be secure while in storage, that is why it is imperative for modern and extensive security features. It may go well beyond gates at this point, but it all starts with them.
